Jeff12/9/2008 12:04:00 AMI recently stayed at the Hotel Galvez for a week for business. Loved the experience. The manager, Rebecca, was amazing. She really showed she cared about our stay and our happiness. The staff was amazing. Migel, a server, was the best server I have ever had. Just can't put it into words. The lobby bar was great. Melissa, Craig, and of course, Rebecca really took great care to make our nights great. Thank you for an amazing week.
Jayne Rahe10/8/2008 1:10:00 PMMy father, William "Bill" Rahe, was the Executive Chef at the Galvez from 1957-1959. It was at that time one of the finest hotels in U.S. I can only imagine how lovely it is now with the renovations. The mail chute located at each elevator was in use back then and I'm so glad that they still have that. I am also so glad that they weathered "Ike". We left the island before Hurricane Carla in '61, and it is my dream to return to the Island during my lifetime.
David Ervin10/7/2008 10:42:00 PMMy family have been visiting the Galvez for 5 years. The first year the roof leaked but they changed us to a new one promptly. Ever since I have never had a bad stay at this Hotel. My wife come here every year for our Anniversary and several other times with our family. We love every thing about this Hotel and consider it our home away from Dallas. I would highly suggest this hotel to anyone. I am so glad they weathered the storm.
DOROTHY COURTNEY9/24/2008 1:48:00 PMWe stayed in this Hotel for one night only before going on a cruise in Feb of 2008. Staff was wonderful. I received the news that my brother had passed away while I was there and everyone was so helpful and considerate. Room was lovely and food was great. I have traveled extensively for the last two years and have stayed exclusively at SPG Hotels this rates top of the list. Hope it was not damaged in this last hurricane.
Jim7/16/2008 1:00:00 PMWas not able to check in at 4:00 pm. Had to drive around for a couple of hours. Never got call that room was ready, had to contact front desk. Room was SMALL, TV was fuzzy, window was extremly dirty and obstructed view. Burnt out light bulbs, smoke detector covered with plastic bag, door lock not working, had to get new door key every time we left the room, frustrating. Same dirty dishes in hall way days in a row. Carpets looked old and stained. Grounds: trash in parking areas, Cig butts everywhere, Construction debris piled up, unsightly. No coffee in the AM, food quality poor. Over priced/over rated, definately not 3 star as advertised. Big disapointment all the way.
ashley7/8/2008 8:12:00 PMMy husband and i stayed at Hotel Galvez last year for our honeymoon. We started out pretty bad at another hotel (the flagship) and that was a nightmare. so my father told us to go here and that was the best thing ever. Everyone was so nice and very helpful. The room was amazing the view is great and the pool was just like a dream we had the best time ever. I have been to many hotels in my life time and by far this was the best one i have been to. GREAT JOB. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! and i will be staying there for our annivesry this year and will reccomend it to EVERYONE!!!!
L. Villarrial6/23/2008 1:12:00 PMI made this reservation for myself, my husband and 2 children for a conference I was attending that was hosted by the Galvez. When I tried to check in I was informed that the hotel was "overbooked" and that my reservation for a double bed room was no longer available and that I would be put into a single bed room and they would provide an air mattress for the children to sleep on. When we arrived to the room, there was no air conditioning. The hotel engineer brought me and my family a fan. Yes a fan. So here we are, 4 of us in a single bed room, air mattress and a fan for 3 luxurious days at the Hotel Galvez! Nightmare! The lack of concern was disturbing and I would never recommend this hotel to anyone I know.
maria nicholson-hahn6/15/2008 8:53:00 AMI stayed at the Galvez 50 yrs. ago for my honeymoon in 1958. It was a lovely hotel at the time, and I'm sure, even lovelier now with the remodeling. I now live in Maryland and seldom get to Texas. Maria Hahn
Lamar6/1/2008 1:16:00 PMThere are not enough stars to describe this place! The staff was amazing, from the bellhops to concierge service. My two favorites were Kelly and Lonnie. I dealt with Lonnie the majority of the time at the front desk and all i can say is that the Galvez better hold on to this guy!!! The atmosphere was amazing and they cater to your every need! Room service was awesome. You have to check out the pic of the ghost by the spa entrance...weird... You must go to the pool at night....the lighting is awesome at night!!! The spa is to die for(or so my wife says)... all in all this is the cream of the crop in galveston
chali4/17/2008 1:53:00 PM Walking in was amazing. I felt transported in time to 1911...beautiful woodworking, breathtaking chandaliers, and marble floors. I loved how they maintained the historic feel of the hotel, right down to the old-time mail chute and the big brass mail box in the lobby. The heated pool and hot-tub was outstanding...lots of palm trees and foliage, plenty of lounge chairs and a wonderful swim-up bar for cocktails. Had drinks in the elegant bar in the lobby before we dined at Rudy and Pacos, and enjoyed a generous breakfast buffet in the hotel resteraunt, Brenardos. Overall, I had a wonderful time and everytime I return to Galveston, I will stay at the Galvez.
Erin4/17/2008 10:33:00 AMBeautiful hotel! We stayed here for our anniversary last year and loved it! Our room had a great view of the water! Will definately stay here again!
